Easy fix for you: go play offline solo games, they say Oblivion is nice.

Good analogy for this mess.

Valid question. I thought that they spend so much time because they needed to implement some new game mechanic to make SF more interesting (pretty sure RB was suggesting that). Instead they just changed numbers and texts and SF, SB, OF work like VoS only that you can still cast...

Are you relatively new to GW? Because GW ALWAYS catered to solo farmers too.

'ArenaNet tries to keep the game fun for everyone while still providing fun and rewarding play for solo farmers.'

My view on this whole situation, is if you're going to make SF still viable, what's wrong with adding minor buffs to skills like Vow of Silence?

Compare this to Skull Crack. Its an ELITE attack, requires 9 adrenaline, inflicts daze for 10 seconds maximum but foe needs to be casting a spell. Now it wouldn't have been such an issue if this stupid skill were non elite. But the fact that it is an elite skill and DEALS no additional damage it is one of the most absurd if not idiotic skill ANET have conjured up.
No, you're not ranting. I've noticed the same thing with some Ele skills.

For example, compare Searing Flames to Rodgort's Invocation. To get a similar effect of RI, you must cast SF twice. That's 25 vs 30 energy. The main difference is SF just burns a little longer. It not really worth the elite slot. If they just combined the two effects into one (making it, in essence, an Elite RI) then I could see it.

Searing Flames causes no exhaustion, effectively costs only 5 energy with 14 Fire Attunement and 13 Energy Storage, is spammable, has a short activation time, doubles as a great way to cover conditions with it's huge duration, has increased potential with several copies in the team, and most important of all, synergizes incredibly well with pretty much any other Fire Magic skill.

Yes Searing Flames is worth the Elite slot. In fact, in PvE comparison to many other Ele elites, it's worth the elite slot 10 times over.

SF is a perfect skill for few people using it at the same time. Cast time is 1 second instead of 2, and recharge is 2 seconds instead of 8. So in the time you cast 4 SFs, you can cast only two RFs, ignoring the cast time.

Searing Flames promotes casterspikes. I'm sorry, why did you bring this up again?

I feel I owe Anet an apology.

No, not for my assertions that their priorities for buffing are mixed up (Mesmers, dervs, and rangers all needed buffs more than tactics and non-spirit ritualists). Not for my worries that Demonic Flesh will be overpowered in the hands of HB+WA warriors (jury's still out on that one).

One of my primary worries about the preliminary update notes was that the buff to Fear Me would be a huge boon to scythe warriors (a build so good at what it does already that some would argue it makes using a dervish meaningless), possibly to the point that it would make even scythe sins obsolete.

Well, I finally got around to doing the math, and it turns out that a scythe warrior using Fear Me is actually less effective. The reason is that although their crit rate is certainly higher, they have to drop an attack skill in order to take it. The resulting loss of dps from that turns out to be greater than the added dps from the higher crit rate. The amount varies depending on attributes (at some spreads it's a pretty close race), but the scythe warrior appears to always be better off with an additional attack skill rather than Fear Me.

So, sorry for doubting you on that particular detail, anet.

They lowered the percentages since the preliminary notes, didn't they? This may be a reason why.

Huh. I thought so too, but figured it might have been my imagination.

Good. Then it's likely they were listening. This bodes well, considering that they also decided in the end not to buff Steelfang Slash.

Of course, if that's true then it means they probably were doing the math too, because on some of those attribute spreads, it was pretty close (like within 3 dps or so).

Now, if they would only fix dervishes and mesmers...

Depends on why they hated SF in the past.

If, for example, they were like me and hated it because it made playing other professions pointless, then one could easily justify the use of it now, since now all professions can join in.

There are problems with this idea, of course, but I won't go into them because I still don't use SF and it was just an example.

Rest assured, though, there are hypocrites on both sides of the aisle on this one.

Im no hypocrite, I'm still tired of impatient children chomping at the bit to abuse a game they were 2-3 years late to, yet have more stuff then the people that did it the real way and have quit long ago.

They can RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO off.
